This means every piece has undergone rigorous quality assurance before it ever reaches your home, so you can relax knowing your new sofa is built to last.

How can you tell a good quality leather sofa?

You can distinguish faux leather from genuine leather by texture and smell. Genuine leather is soft to the touch. It also has a unique smell which is rich and natural, as opposed to faux leather which has a synthetic, unnatural smell. Natural leather also features unique markings, and won’t be uniform all over. Even if the leather has been corrected with a pattern, you should still be able to spot some variation here and there.

Fortunately for you, you can be sure that all Domicil leather sofas use only the finest South American hides, resulting in a top-quality finish every time. Come in-store and experience 100% real leather for yourself with our exclusive range. Our friendly furniture experts will be more than happy to demonstrate the benefits of a real leather sofa to you in person, so you can be confident the sofa you buy will serve you well for many years to come.

How do I care for a real leather sofa?

Leather furniture looks and feels fantastic, and it’s important to care for it to ensure it stays at its best. The good news is, leather is generally more hardwearing than fabric, especially if you choose a specific family-friendly leather. In emergencies, like spilled wine or food, blot the spillage with a dry cloth or kitchen paper. Don’t rub the area, as doing so could potentially damage or discolour the leather.

You should regularly clean your leather furniture. Give it a quick dust with a soft cloth, slightly dampened with boiled water that’s been allowed to cool to room temperature. Don’t get the cloth too wet – you don’t want to soak the leather! You can also gently vacuum your furniture weekly, especially from under cushions and down the sides of the seats.

Avoid using spray polish and detergents, as these may ruin the finish of your leather. Always test any cleaning products in an inconspicuous area before undertaking any cleaning. We recommend our Care+ Protect care kits – they have been specifically designed and tested for these leathers, guaranteeing you excellent performance every time you clean your sofa.

Many people also worry about leather sofas cracking over time. Luckily for you, our care kit includes a Leather Protection Cream, which is vital for maintaining your real leather sofa. After cleaning, apply the cream generously with a soft cloth or sponge, ensuring you get thorough coverage across the whole sofa. Once dry, the cream acts as a barrier and protects your leather from dirt and liquids, much like wax on a car. It will also help prevent your leather from drying and cracking, so you can enjoy your new sofa for years to come.
